How it works
Which rules apply to you?

Four questions most employers ask first

Short answers with the regulation behind each one. Not sure where your workplace fits? The requirements check takes about a minute.

Is your workplace noisy?

The Noise Exposure Regulations 2019 require a noise risk assessment by a DOSH-registered assessor, reviewed at least every 5 years. Workers exposed to excessive noise need annual training and audiometric testing.

Do you use hazardous chemicals?

USECHH Regulations 2000 require a written Chemical Health Risk Assessment by a registered assessor. Exposure monitoring and medical surveillance follow where the CHRA recommends them.

Lifting, repetitive or awkward work?

The DOSH Guidelines on Ergonomics Risk Assessment 2017 start with an initial screening and move to an advanced assessment where the score calls for it.

Five or more employees?

Act 514 as amended in 2022 requires a risk assessment (section 18B) and an OSH coordinator where there is no safety and health officer (section 29A).

One plan for noise: assessment, training and testing

Under the 2019 regulations, noise duties come back on a cycle. We put them on one calendar: OSHMed carries out the assessment and the training, and audiometric testing is done at our partner’s approved testing centre.

82.3%

of confirmed occupational diseases in Malaysia in 2024 were noise-related hearing disorders: 6,747 of 8,196 cases.

FAQ

Questions safety officers ask us

Is a noise risk assessment mandatory in Malaysia?

Yes, where employees may be exposed to noise at work. The Occupational Safety and Health (Noise Exposure) Regulations 2019 require the employer to have a noise risk assessment carried out by a DOSH-registered noise risk assessor, and to review it at intervals of not more than 5 years.

When is a CHRA required?

Before any work that may expose employees to chemicals hazardous to health. USECHH Regulations 2000 require a written assessment by a DOSH-registered CHRA assessor, reviewed under regulation 10 when the work changes significantly, when 5 years have passed, or when DOSH directs it.

Who can carry out audiometric testing for our workers?

Only a DOSH-approved audiometric testing centre, with audiograms interpreted by a registered occupational health doctor. OSHMed is not a testing centre: testing is arranged through our partner, Nova Care Sdn Bhd, an approved audiometric testing centre in Kajang.

Does a company with 5 employees need an OSH coordinator?

Act 514 as amended in 2022 (in force 1 June 2024) requires employers with 5 or more employees to appoint an OSH coordinator where no safety and health officer is employed (section 29A). The coordinator course must be attended at a DOSH-recognised training centre.

Is the Factories and Machinery Act still in force?

No. The Factories and Machinery Act 1967 was repealed by Act 835 with effect from 1 June 2024. Duties on noise, chemicals and training now come under Act 514 and its regulations.

Can you train our staff at our own premises?

Yes. All our courses can run in-house at your site. Tell us the number of participants and your preferred dates and we will send a written proposal.
