The company requested that audiometry tests be conducted for all factory employees. Our subject matter expert conducted training for Hearing Conservation Administrators within the HSE team to oversee progress, evaluate performance, and review effectiveness. A common challenge encountered was the unclear definition of SEGs, resulting in the failure to accurately identify at-risk workers. We recommended that the company review the NRA and explicitly define the relevant SEGs.

A safety and health officer informed that numerous employees were notified to DOSH as having permanent Standard Threshold Shift (STS) in past years After examining the NRA and previous audiograms, it was discovered that all employees were sent for audiometry, and baseline audiograms had not been reviewed for a prolonged period Consequently, employees who were not exposed to excessive noise at work and those whose baseline audiograms had not been reviewed were reported to DOSH. We recommended that the company refer to the specific SEG above the Noise Exposure Limit (NEL) and review the baseline audiograms in accordance with the Industry Code of Practice for Management of Occupational Noise Exposure and Hearing Conservation 2019.
